This combination fire station / ESD facility is located in Richmond, Texas, a rapidly growing community outside of Houston. Due, to its proximity to the Gulf Coast, this three and a half bay pull through fire station is capable of withstanding 130 mph hurricane force winds. BRW strove to create a visual link to Fulshear's farming beginnings by designing a modern building with elements from a traditional farm building. The combination of the richly colored limestone and the bold appearance of the metal panels, roof, and exposed steel columns cohesively exist to provide a welcoming appearance to the community with the feel of protection. Custom designed sun-shading devices, deep porches, and overhangs provide protection from the hot Texas sun, along with the integration of high performance translucent windows reduces the building's heat gain.
