The restoration and renovation of this historic 1917 downtown Post Office is three-fold; to restore the public areas of this classical building back to its original grandeur, to provide access to the building for those with physical disabilities, and to update the private and working spaces to current standards and codes. The lobby of this Post Office, with its grand rotunda, marble floors and wainscoting, and original mail boxes remains intact with several improvements -- repainting of the interior walls to the original colors, replacement of the newer plastic skylight with a replica of the original art glass skylight in the rotunda, removal of the 1960's-era vestibule and replacement of the exterior doors to match the original, and addition of custom lobby furniture which will complement the historic character of the building.
