To achieve the two primary goals of converting the open classroom school to traditional classrooms, and changing the perceived building image from a temporary facility to one with a sense of permanence, a new auditorium and main entrance with a public facade were built. A sense of arrival and departure was attained by the extension of the interior lobby to the exterior public space and vehicular drop-off. Clerestories were added to create rhythm and repetition with naturally-lighted common spaces. Additionally, masonry construction encapsulated the existing 1969 building with a new and permanent exterior, successfully addressing the surrounding context, including the 1991 addition.
