As Phase two of the City of Alameda District 3 Public Safety Master Plan, Fire Station 3 will be a new two-story facility containing firefighter operations, living quarters, and a conference room with a public restroom. The facility will initially house one engine company an ambulance, with space for reserve apparatus. Service aprons will be available on both sides of the apparatus bays to facilitate servicing, cleaning and fueling. The formation of the design included a series of community presentations and discussion. Multiple meetings were held over a two-month period and focused on operations, space needs, and site arrangement and potential design concept solutions.
Attendees included adjacent neighbors and interested community members. All meetings started with a brief recap of the site location, general operations and progress to date and concluded with a series of questions and ideas from the attendees. The “Prairie Style” exterior design was selected during the neighborhood meeting phase. The exterior forms will feature hip roofs with wide overhangs and an entry trellis. The exterior materials will be concrete tile roof, stucco walls and stone base. The entry plaza is designed to accommodate a firefighter memorial exhibit.
