In response to their changing and rapidly growing community, The City of Conroe’s Parks and Recreation Department commissioned the renovation and addition to their current recreation center. The project was renovated and constructed in two phases, remaining operational throughout construction.

The Recreation Center provides comfortable and generous spaces to accommodate a variety of activities, such as yoga, junior gymnastics, basketball, volleyball, racquetball, teen zone, dancing, aerobics, spinning, and so forth. Adjacent to the cardio and weight training area, a nursery is provided, to support members’ needs in a secure, visible area. Administration offices are strategically placed to provide privacy to staff, yet be available to members’ needs.

By maximizing the existing footprint, and reconfiguring the existing, disjointed 22,580 sf building, a seamless transition was created between new and old. Interior sightlines and perspectives throughout the building were expanded by elevating the existing roofline with clerestory windows, incorporating storefront windows and designing a transparent façade. The 7,462 sf addition, located directly in front of the existing building, contains a 3,000 sf fitness center, administration wing, and a 35’ tall, naturally illuminated lobby, leaving the original Recreation Center unrecognizable.
