The project feasibility study prepared for the Denton Parks & Recreation Department determined that a renovation and expansion of the centrally located existing Senior Center was the best value for the citizens and their needs.
While the existing 16,000 SF building was nearly sufficient in area, the current design and layout prevented the facility from the most effective use, particularly restricting flexibility of programming. The solution was a 3,000 SF addition for three multi-purpose rooms on northwest side of the building affording ample views of the beautiful neighboring park.
The interior portion of the center was also carefully reworked to allow space for a new fitness area, a social space with coffee bar, and computer stations. Administrators at the new reception desk have direct sight of all major activities for safety and security purposes.
The goal of these building improvements is to broaden participation by providing spaces conducive to multi-generational senior activities.
