Located on approximately 15 acres of undeveloped land in the Pleasant Grove area of southeastern Dallas, Texas, less than 15 minutes from downtown, the new DISD elementary school relieves an underserved established community. The new elementary school was designed in conjunction with the Collaborative for High Performance School (CHPS) requirements. The project team, including Dallas ISD was unified in their goal of implementing CHPS and thereby improving the energy performance of the building.
The two-story facility features a welcoming protected courtyard entrance. From this covered entry, the larger scaled public spaces are connected to address a vertical, light filled lobby that links the Classrooms, Media Center, Performance and Administration areas. The facility is sited to face the main street with a linear public facade that faces southward and classrooms oriented along the east west axis to allow for controlled natural light throughout.
