The original Mansfield High School continues to serve as a symbol to the community of the long standing belief in the power of quality education to provide opportunities for success to the children of Mansfield. With the development of the Mansfield area as a location of choice for many families in the DFW area and the accompanied rapid growth of the school district, the district administration had outgrown the adjacent offices sited near the historic property.
Renovation of the Historic property provides expanded offices for the administration and a stunning new board meeting room located in the historic auditorium. Abandoned for several years after the construction of improved modern facilities for education, the 1924 structure faced several challenges to its survival. The renovation includes replacement of all windows, new roofing, new HVAC systems, new electrical service, new water and sewer service, and complete reconstruction of the interior finishes. Features of the interior reconstruction include historic detailing of new wood paneled doors with glazed transoms and sidelights, new wood flooring, wood trim and pressed metal ceilings which closely replicate the original finishes.
A custom brick mural founders wall depicting the history of Mansfield and its legacy of quality education will be the focal point of the entry lobby. The centerpiece of the facility is the renovated historic auditorium with reconstructed plaster walls, millwork, pressed metal ceilings, custom pendant lighting and dramatic high clerestory windows bringing ample natural daylight into the space.
With the success of this adaptive reuse follow future opportunities for renovating the historic rock gymnasium sited behind the school and the relocation of the existing administrative offices which to open the entrance once again to the classic lawn frontage on Broad Street.
