This project provides much needed public facilities to the lively center of Point Reyes Station. Supporting the nearby downtown area and adjacent playground with addition parking, drinking fountains and changing tables, these accessible restrooms has quickly become a necessity to the community. In keeping with coastal small town experience of Point Reyes Station, the design of these restrooms incorporates rustic elements that connect with other buildings in the area and emphasize the local flavor. The community is located on thriving, beautiful Northern California coastal environment, and supported our decision to take special measures to minimize our environmental impact.
The site presented some interesting accessibility issues being located between a storm drain culvert in the front and leech drainage field beyond the parking lot in the rear. Keeping the slope of the site in mind, the design team created the main approach coming from the parking lot in the rear with a walkway made of decomposed granite.
