The Saint Patrick Catholic Church & School selected BRW Architects to design a new Parish Center and a two story Music / Library addition to their existing school campus. The existing campus is sited on a steep sloping site in the Lake Highlands section of Dallas. The site development concept was to take advantage of the picturesque views, while integrating the structures into the natural terrain of the hillside.
The new Parish Center consists of a one-story free standing 5,000 SF building with covered walkways connecting to a new vestibule addition to the existing Gymnasium. The program called for two large meeting areas with flexibility to become one large fellowship space, a large single classroom for several scouting programs, a serving kitchen, and large restroom facilities. The prominent elevation faces north allowing the large meeting area(s) to view into a newly formed courtyard, framed by a covered walkway and planted retaining terraces. Site development includes a paved public plaza and entry sequence to both the Parish Center as well as the Gymnasium, additional concrete parking and drop off area.
The Music /Library Addition is a two-story structure with approximately 3,500 SF per floor. This facility will provide a new Music studio and classroom with additional support spaces for nine different choirs at the parish. Also included is a new Library facility complete with a reference / computer section, office / workroom, and a children’s reading area. Covered walkway canopies attached to the building lead to the existing parking. The exterior structural frame will be concrete with brick infill to match the existing structure with interior structural steel composite concrete floor and metal deck roof framing. Site development includes a new paved terrace, stairs, ramps, and planted retaining walls.
