The Texas A&M University System purchased a two-story building for the purposes of relocating their existing operations for the University Systems. Comprising the Finance, Audit, Legal, Facilities Planning, Accounting, Community Relations, Human Resources and Chancellor’s offices, the building is located in an office park south of the College Station campus and accessible from Highway 6. The existing building is on two levels with concrete tilt-wall construction, lightweight steel framing for the second floor and roof, with punched openings in the wall panels creating the fenestration patterns. Parking is all on-surface concrete paving. The overall shell was approximately 80% complete when purchased, so the scope of work includes finishing the building “shell” as well as interior architectural development for the intended users.
Individual departments have internal reception areas, office and administrative areas, conference rooms, file and copy workrooms, and employee break rooms. Facilities for common use of all users include a Fitness Center, Main Assembly Area with catering Kitchen, Training Rooms, and central receiving area. Entrance to the facility is through a two-story atrium area with security access control and waiting area for visitors. A “streetscape” environment provides access to each department and will facilitate circulation as well as a visually organizing element as one moves through the public spaces. The streetscape divides the floor plate into four quadrants on both floors. The intersection of the two dividing elements results in a central area with enhanced lighting and elevators for circulation. Each dividing circulation element terminates in a vertical circulation component with day-lighting provided by glazing in the exterior wall.
