With College Station being one of the fastest growing communities in Texas, the City defined a need for the renovation and expansion of the existing 28,400 square foot Police Station. The goal was to meet departmental space objectives while keeping the public safety communications and holding facilities in operation at all times.
The design intent for the project was to enhance a municipal landmark by promoting community interaction while creating a notion of safety and security. The most unique challenge was the strategic relocation of the main entrance from the south side to north side of the building. This move needed to be done in order to accommodate the growing building demands, maximize the usable space, control public access and centralize staff flow.
This renovation transformed the existing police station into a state-of-the-art facility consisting of a lobby, information services, dispatch, recruiting, training, patrol property storage, evidence storage, a weight room, locker rooms, special services, holding cells, criminal investigation, forensics, community meeting rooms, drug task force, and administration spaces. Most importantly, the renovated police station serves as a beacon of safety, a physical manifestation of the College Station police department’s dedication to public service.
