The 168,000 square foot Woodrow Wilson High School was in need of cosmetic and mechanical repairs throughout the historic structure. The High School’s growth necessitated a 40,000 square foot addition as well.

BRW performed an extensive survey of the school to determine the final scope of work.  Cosmetic repairs such as new interior and exterior paint, cleaning, and minor repairs were included in the scope.  Restrooms were refurbished with new tile, fixtures, and accessories, and the building envelope was enhanced with new exterior doors, window restoration, and roof repairs as required.  Updates to mechanical and electrical systems were also assessed. Extensive coordination was required during construction to maintain access to existing portable classrooms and plan for swing space.

The new addition takes cues from and remains sensitive to the historic original structure, while providing a modern counterpoint.  The addition houses eight new classrooms, six new science laboratories, a robotics office, faculty workroom, and a state-of-the-art Drama Classroom / Black Box Theater room, complete with a scene shop and dressing rooms.
