KISD Strack Intermediate School

Strack Intermediate School was a comprehensive renovation and addition project that modernized a 50-year-old middle school while maintaining full campus operations throughout construction. BRW transformed the existing facility to support contemporary learning environments, carefully balancing construction phasing with the daily needs of students and staff.

To minimize disruption, the project was delivered through a highly coordinated phasing strategy that included the installation of 12 temporary buildings to serve as swing space. Interior renovations involved an extensive reconfiguration of approximately 185,000 square feet, encompassing classrooms, science labs, administrative offices, clinic and special education spaces, common areas, cafeteria, and library. Structural modifications to the existing cast-in-place concrete building introduced two new central stairways, improving circulation and creating visual connections between floors.

The project also included exterior and programmatic enhancements that redefined the campus experience. New rainscreen façades refreshed the building’s identity, while a practice gymnasium addition expanded opportunities for student activity. Together, these improvements extended the life of the campus and created a cohesive, future-ready learning environment.
