Winkler County EMS Facility

The Winkler County EMS and Dispatch Station stands as a testament to the transformation possible when design is rooted in community needs. For over a decade, local emergency medical services operated out of a temporary facility, underscoring the urgent need for a permanent, purpose-built home. BRW responded by designing a station that not only supports first responders but also reflects the character of Kermit, Texas, with materials and forms inspired by the West Texas landscape.
BRW approached the project with a focus on resilience and community connection. The design incorporates generous overhangs to provide shade in the desert climate, while stone masonry and copper metal roofs echo the region’s natural beauty and existing county buildings. An inviting entry tower welcomes visitors, and the building’s openness signals safety and support. The new station is strategically located next to the community center, reinforcing its role as a vital resource for the county.
Through creative problem-solving and a deep understanding of local needs, BRW delivered a facility that enhances emergency response and strengthens community ties. The Winkler County EMS Facility stands as a lasting example of how thoughtful design and public service can come together to support and strengthen the community.
