WINKLER COUNTY WELLNESS CENTER

Kermit, Texas is a proud West Texas community that places a strong emphasis on the health, wellness, and quality of life of its residents. The Winkler County Wellness Center was developed to provide recreation, fitness, and community resources for people of all ages, from children seeking active play opportunities to adults pursuing lifelong health and wellness. The result is a 35,000 SF facility situated on 12 acres of county-owned land that brings together recreation, fitness, and community services under one roof.

BRW’s design responds directly to what the community needed most: variety, accessibility, and a reason to show up. Inside, the building offers fitness and cardio areas, group exercise spaces, an elevated jogging track, and a climbing wall. Outside, the grounds open up into a full recreational campus with courts, a splash pad, a putting green, and a walking trail with fitness stations. Rather than a single-purpose gym, the design creates a destination that works for a wide range of ages, interests, and fitness levels.

As the project evolved, so did the vision. The scope expanded significantly from its original contract, growing in both building size and program to better serve the community’s needs. BRW managed that growth thoughtfully, incorporating additional features like the splash pad and enhanced design elements while keeping the project on track. The Winkler County Wellness Center now stands as a meaningful civic investment, giving a small Texas community a facility that reflects its commitment to the long-term wellbeing of its residents.
